Life is about life

The beginning of my day by Me
(no more rhetorical questions)

Today is a great day! I am up and at 'em and the sun is out but no wind, which is just how I like it. I thought I would do a run down on how I start my day, now that it is spring.

I awake to the soft sound of classical music around 6am usually, as my clock radio is on New Zealand's Concert radio station. So that's nice.

Then I listen to the birds twittering for a bit in my garden, and think about how I'd better water the garden. At this time of year I have seedlings going (I call them the babies, as in, I'd better bring the babies in now, or the wind will upset them.) so I take them outside and sit them next to all the pots and then sneak out the front and turn on the water. This bit is slightly embarrassing, because I don't have a tap out the back, and the front is right on the street. Luckily our street is not that busy so I can wait until there are no cars and whip out turn the tap twice and whip back in again. If anyone does walk or drive past at that moment and see me in my pyjamas or dressing gown, I just act like I don't really care anyway.

Anyway, then I check that the hose, which is strung up on an archway over the garden and set on spray mode, is gently sprinkling water all over my seedlings and food growing in pots. I like to give them a good water first thing so that when it gets really hot later on they are fine. Seedlings of course until they germinate have to be kept wet.

(Before my watering ritual is over, I have two other garden areas that also need to be watered. The whole process takes about 40 minutes or so, while I get breakfast and plan what work or other kind of fun I am going to do for the rest of the day.)

And that is how I start my day. If you are a gardener you may be interested in my gardening blog, but if you are not a gardener, it may have been a tad dull. However, I would like to justify this post by saying that noticing the little things in life (like a sprouting seed) and looking after things (a pet, a plant, a relative etc) can give real meaning to life. After all, life is about, well, life.

No, you're no longer a baby but I still don't want the wind to upset you. :)
